Who Doesn't Lie?
living in an age of lying
Epimenides was a famous sixth century B.C. poet who wrote that his own people, the Cretans, were non-stop liars and cheats in everything they did. The apostle Paul quotes him in Titus 1:12 as he exhorts the followers of Christ to rebuke the liars and live pure lives.
How often do you hear the speakers of today, whether from news agencies or podcasters, calling everyone around them liars? We are constantly looking for truth; for answers to our questions. We hear politicians dance around questions, we hear new conspiracies daily and there seems to be nothing solid to stand firm on.
“What is truth?” was what Pontious Pilate asked Jesus before being crucified. The stories, the questions, the answers (that seem shaky at best) and straight up lies are overwhelming and seem to be getting worse each week. But we have hope— there is Someone who cannot lie.
“That by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.”
Hebrews 6:18
These are the two things: God’s promise and His oath. In these we have hope! That hope is sure because God CANNOT lie. It is impossible for Him to lie, because He IS truth. My fellow believers, we have so much hope to be free from this present age. Let us stay focused on the race we are running and may we keep ourselves undefiled by this vile world.
Look to Christ and Live.
Keep your hand to the plow,
Cody
